Emotion regulation is a key skill not only for recovery but also for life. Effective emotion regulation must include the body and not only the mind. In my approach, the body is viewed as a wise teacher, a direct pathway for helping you develop a trusting and nourishing relationship with yourself.
These techniques work by helping you enhance your self-trust and interoceptive awareness. Interoceptive awareness refers to your ability to identify, assess, and appraise your internal bodily sensations and how your emotions are manifesting in your body. This will help you learn how to regulate the stressors and anxiety you hold in your body in a skilful way (i.e. in a way that does not perpetuate your struggles with body image and food).
I believe that these skills are key for sustaining and moving you toward a full recovery. Through our work together, you will learn techniques that you can practice at home, and as you go about your daily life. These techniques are based on neuroscience and the practices of yoga and meditation.
